This is a very clever idea.

A community project , set-up a couple of years ago called Free Cakes for Kids is a community service to families who find it difficult to provide a birthday cake for their child.

The project links-up keen amateur bakers with families in need who are finding it tough to provide the extras that really make a child's birthday special.

Volunteer Bakers meet in groups, provide all the ingredients then bake and decorate impressive birthday cakes designed to suit the child’s favourite style and flavours... whether  a princess cake, a sports team or popstar cake the child gets something special to celebrate their birthday, and it helps make life a little brighter for some struggling families.

This is how it works:

The project has local volunteer bakers right across the country - whilst there are a few London based groups there is not a very local group... so.. is there anyone in Bowes and Bounds keen to share baking expertise and make a small person happy on their birthday?

You can visit the Free Cakes for Kids project website and learn all about setting up a local group.
