Chatting over coffee the other day, Mandy and I agreed it would be nice to meet other local people who are freelance or part-time workers or who work from home. We know how nice it is to speak to real people during the working day when you don't have a standard office set up and colleagues on hand to chat to.

So, we're both going to be in The Step on Friday 13 December between 1-2.30pm for a coffee, perhaps a spot of lunch and some socialising, and see what happens.

We'd love you to join us! Really interested to find out what other people do, what skills they have, what projects they're working on and also just to meet people and make new friends and contacts.

See you there? Mandy (fab freelance graphic designer) made this ace poster. If you can't make it but like the idea, please leave us a note below.

Great initiative, Lindsey! Will try and come along - freelance deadlines permitting! ;-)

Good idea.  I'd also be interested in attending.  I teach part-time in higher education.  Unfortunately, I am teaching for the next two Fridays.  Grateful if you could confirm in due course if future meetings are taking place.

I will try to come along as well - a great idea for meeting people.  I also work part-time in higher ed - but am just about to retire and looking for other things to do and local people to meet.

Looking forward to it, see you there

Sue

hi there, what a great idea! I'm hoping to come along.  you may also be interested in Creative Exchange which is a local network for creatives, set up so that lone workers (as you describe) can meet each other.  We run the Open Studios & Art Trail in Palmers Green & Southgate in June and just ran the Designer Craft & Art Fair in Southgate.  we have around 80 members, all creatives working in different disciplines so theres a really good mix of people.  we are having a christmas gathering this wednesday evening 11th December which is a great opportunity to meet folk, so if you're interested in coming along, please email me on admin@creativeexchange.uk.com and I will send you details. best wishes, Dan Maier

That's great, Dan - thanks for the info and look forward to meeting you.

you're welcome, you too :)

Sounds great Dan. I can't make Wednesday evening, but would be great to meet you and others and find out more about the Creative Exchange.

brill, look forward to seeing you friday, have been meaning to go to the Step for ages! :)

That was great! Thanks to everyone who showed up. Really nice to meet you all.

It felt like people were keen on doing it again sometime so once Christmas is out of the way, we'll set up a new event. In the meantime, perhaps we can set up a group on this forum for us to exchange website addresses and connect online until then?

Great idea Lindsey. Thanks everyone. Was great to meet you all, although sorry didn't get to speak to everyone. Next time!

Good to meet everyone - and so many turned up! Never knew there were so many creative people hiding away in Bowes Park! Looking forward to the next one.

How about a Twitter hashtag? I used #FreelanceFriday but that's probably not original.
