A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Hi folks
Let us introduce ourselves. We are a bunch of parents in Haringey, alarmed at the funding cuts that our local schools are facing.
Haringey schools are up against it as a result of real terms cuts in central government pupil funding, increased running costs and, now, a new national funding formula the government is bringing that will be taking money away from schools in London and other urban areas to give to under-funded schools in other parts of the country.
Schools in Haringey could be losing 10 per cent of their funding over the next 3 years.
We support equal pupil funding across the country but taking money away from some schools to give to others, while shrinking the whole funding pot is doing no one any favours. Teaching unions estimate that over 90 per cent of schools will be net losers.
All the great work that state schools in London have achieved over recent years could come undone with the scale of these cuts.
We are starting a campaign to force the government to listen to the concerns of parents and pupils and to make the case for fair funding for all schools.
You may have seen us featured on Channel 4 News last night: www.channel4.com/news/schools-lose-out-from-new-funding-formula
We are launching our campaign at 8pm on Tuesday 17 January at Rhodes Avenue Primary, London, N22 7UT. All parents from all schools are very welcome to attend.
Speakers include:
Catherine West MP
Claire Kober, Leader LB Haringey
Kevin Courtney, General Secretary, National Union of Teachers
Please do come along and find out about the issue, join our campaign and spread the word around the community. The power of united parents and citizens in our community cannot be underestimated.
