Ghost Signs - the fading relics of hand painted advertising signs - can occasionally be glimpsed around London on older buildings.

The signs can provide an insight into local history and help locate historic traders and businesses - yet like lots of quirky remainders of London's past they attract a very particular "fandom" - with enthusiasts visiting, photographing and debating their origins. The "Ghost Signs" website and Twitter Feed assiduously collates images from across the country ... and across the world

We have, to my knowledge, two visible ghost signs locally pictured below; one is on the corner of Whittington and Marlborough Rd advertising "Martins" - does anyone know the history of this business? Were they a furniture shop?

The other on local sign is for a Painter and Decorating firm "... something and sons". Any ideas? It is painted on the gable end of number 14 Granville Road - visible from the New River Path.
