HARINGEY OVER 50S FORUM SEEKS NEW VOLUNTEERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS

We are looking for volunteers to join our Committee and help support our members and older residents in Haringey.

The Forum is one of the main organisations representing older people in Haringey.

In ‘normal’ times we have been running a film club and a coffee-and-chat session in a café, each once a month, plus occasional larger public meetings usually about public service issues. During the ‘lockdown’ we are trying to keep in touch with members by online ‘Zoom’ meetings and phone calls – and we’re sending and receiving quite a lot of e-mails about how the virus crisis affects older people and services for them

When lockdown ends organisation of social activities will be done through the new ‘Haringey Circle’, an initiative to provide social activities and generate mutual aid amongst older people locally. We have a partnership role with Reach and Connect in launching that. In the longer run we see ourselves as an advocacy group for older people in the borough, trying to improve their lives and services for them by making our voice heard by the Council and other public bodies.

If you would like to use your skills and experience in committee work, events organising, and dialogue with public bodies and politicians, to help us with our work with older people in Haringey, we would love to hear from you!

These are unpaid positions which involve a committee meeting once every 6-8 weeks, and wherever possible attendance at one or two meetings of the Forum in between. For more detailed information see https://ho50s.org.uk/me/

If you are interested please send us an e-mail telling us about your interests and relevant experience, whether paid or unpaid, the reasons for your interest and details of two personal references to /span>info@ho50s.org.uk>.

If you would like an informal chat first please request contact with the Treasurer, Anne Gray, via that e-mail, giving your phone number.
