A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Many thanks to Caroline Simpson who has forwarded a fascinating document which gives a little insight into local history.
To celebrate the centenary of Bounds Green School in 1993 staff students and parents produced a short booklet telling the history of the school - it is available to download here.
It's interesting to see how things connect locally - before the school was built lessons first started in Shaftesbury Hall - our "Tin Tabernacle" in Herbert Road.
The history booklet records wartime schooling and includes information about the bombing of Bounds Green Tube and the young evacuees who went to rural areas to avoid the Nazi Blitz in London.
Stories are told by former pupils including reminiscence about visiting George Moores Menswear in Myddleton Road to buy school uniform.
