A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
I'm always a big fan of data visualisations - ways that huge amounts of complex statistical information can be simply shared and understood.
So I was delighted to find an item on the always excellent Londonist Round-up today pointing to a fascinating new census data visualisation tool constructed by Oliver O'Brien at UCL’s Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis. The tool can be used to look at any of the categories collected in census questions including employment, education household size etc. The demonstration data (set out in today's Guardian) allows visitors to explore on a map the answers to last year's census question about religion: Dark blue areas indicate at least 39.5% there said they had no religion. Bright red means fewer than 10% gave that answer
Here is a local extract from the map and data Click on the image to interrogate the map.
Any idea why our local patch appears a little more godless west of the Bowes Park Railway Line and south of the North Circular?

Very interesting, Richard. I'd encourage people to click on the map and also look at some of the other data that is available here - lots of stuff about health, education, ethnicity etc. I suppose some of the differences are pretty obvious, but the maps do bring out the idea of being on the 'right side of the track' - in this case, west of the railway line that goes through Ally Pally and then up to New Southgate and beyond, where there are big differences on almost every measure. Among many other items of interest, I was surprised that in almost every street in Bowes Park north of Myddleton Road, around a third of the population is white non-British.
