A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Hot on the heels of the recent "Banksy" mural at Whymark Avenue, Turnpike Lane now has a new piece of high profile Urban Art. "Envision Peace" is by Frank Shepard Fairey the US graphic designer and illustrator - probably best known for his "Hope" poster for Barack Obama's 2008 Presidential election campaign.
The artwork is in Langham Road at the back of Turnpike Lane Tube. It is produced with a mix of stencils and painting and set within a plaster advertising sign frame at the end of a row of Victorian shops.
It was created - without a fee - by Fairey to celebrate the DIY Streets Community Project which was conducted by Sustrans with local people to improve the local area's infrastructure and traffic flow; making it a safer and more attractive place to live.
