We were saddened to hear this weekend of the death of former Bowes Ward Councillor and Enfield Council leader Jeff Rodin.
Jeff Rodin was born in 1950 lived in Hackney and then Harrow before studying Politics and Sociology at the University of Birmingham where he became active in the Anti Apartheid Movement as well as organising student opposition to the Vietnam War.
These early engagements were the start of a lifelong involvement in a variety of progressive political activity
Jeff joined the Inland Revenue and worked as a Tax inspector for nearly 40 years until he retired in 2011.
Jeff was a local Councillor representing Bowes Ward on Enfield Council from 1986 – 2010. During that period he was Deputy Leader of the opposition on the Council from 1987 -1989, Leader of the Opposition from 1989 – 1994, and again from 2005 – 2010, and Leader of the Council from 1994 -1999.
Alongside his political leadership Jeff also took a volunteer role as Trustee, later Chair of Trustees of Enfield Citizens Advice service.
Jeff was a committed public servant, his leadership and career-long commitment to social justice made immeasurable improvements to the lives of many residents of Enfield.

Homage to retiring Councillor Jeff Rodin
As councillor and also leader of the Enfield Labour group, Jeff has worked extremely hard on behalf of Bowes residents for the past 24 years. Having decided to stand down from elected office in May 2010, he deserves an enormous thanks for his many contributions to life in the ward, alongside returning Bowes Labour councillors Achilleas Georgiou and Yasemin Brett. Alan Sitkin, the local community activist selected to stand as Labour's third candidate locally, has also made it clear that he will make active use of Jeff's depth of experience and knowledge, for the greater benefit of our neighbourhoods.
