I am a big fan of the London Historians Website - lots of interesting and well researched articles on odd or unusual elements of London.

 

A recent article traces the history of the New River - famously neither new, nor a river - whilst the main focus of the article is the southern end, from Stoke Newington into central London, it does have a lot of background about Hugh Myddelton - after whom Myddleton Road in Bowes Park is named.
