Hi everyone,

We, a group of Harringay locals, are organising the Harringay Block Party in Portland Gardens N4 on Saturday 27 September from noon till 6pm.

The Block Party is a food, music and art festival and we would like to invite all of you to join us for a fun filled day and lots of community spirit.

We are still looking for people to get involved, in particular local artists.

We see the participation of local artists as being the foundation for this ’party’ to become an annual event.

Our aim is to make this event a showcase for the talent and skills of those in the area.

But within this, we want to stress the idea of it being an opportunity for residents to BUY art. It will be an opportunity through which the broader community can begin to actively value and support local artists. An opportunity to engage with both the artists and the concept of buying art, not from a gallery, but from an individual… a member of their community.

A sub-theme of this is to promote these concepts to the children of the area. We would like to provide the opportunity for kids of any age to buy their “first piece”. To select, buy, and treasure a piece of local art. A tangible reminder of their link to the community.

We are open to all types of artistic media and would welcome any interested artists to get in touch at harringayblockparty@gmail.com, to discuss the possibility of joining us on the day.

Hope to see you on the 27th!

Hello Jessica

I am a local artist, though relatively new to Bowes Park/Bounds green area.  Have been looking around for places to show my work.  I like to join in local events, and am already a member of the community choir.  Work mainly in 3D i.e. ceramics and sculpture.

You say that you would like children to be able to buy their first peice of artwork, but thinking of how much most artworks cost to produce, I am wondering what kind of objects you had in mind.  Unframed prints and drawings or fairly mass-produced thrown pots come to mind.

Could I talk to you on the phone about this? My landline no. is 0208 616 9159.

Regards

Rosalind Simpson

PS I know a Jessica through the choir, could you be the same one?

Hi Rosalind my friend Phil, who runs the exhibition, tried calling you but couldn't reach you.
Is it possible to email you, and then please let me know your email address too?

Thanks,

Jessica

PS I'm not in the choir.

Hi Jessica

Had a phone call today from Cyril Kennedy (?) and we discussed the idea of me exhibiting my sculptues on the 27th. They are about 40cms high and 15cms wide, cut from sheet metal.  I would have to find some small blocks of wood to mount them on and decide on prices.  He said that you were looking for a range of prices and media.  I gave him my email address,  which is -

Hope to hear from you

Rosalind

Wondering what came of this, last year, and if there's any intention to repeat?
