Man caught on CCTV dumping mattress fined £400 fixed penalty by Enfield Council

STORY CREDITED TO ENFIELD ADVERTISER

A MAN wanted for dumping a mattress on a New Southgate street caught on CCTV in broad daylight last month has been slapped with a £400 fixed penalty fine.

Enforcement officers made door-to-door enquiries for help in identifying him after he was spotted fly-tipping in Palmers Road, close to the junction of Bowes Road, on Thursday, February 2.

Since January they said a total of 12 fixed £400 penalty notices had been issued for fly-tipping offences, and 158 fines of £80 penalties for small domestic waste.

The council launched a campaign last year to combat fly-tipping and a team of rubbish busters now patrol the streets 20 hours every week.

Residents have been warned on the spot fixed penalties have been doubled, from £200 to £400 as part of the clamp down.

Cllr Daniel Anderson, the Council’s cabinet member for environment, said they would not “tolerate” fly-tipping or any attempt to “tarnish” the image of the borough.

We are on your case. When it comes to litter enforcement, we are one of the most determined boroughs in London spending around £4.4m each year keeping our streets clean," he said.

“The message is clear - if you fly tip, expect to be caught.”
