Major event last night on Maryland Road adjacent to Glendale Avenue. Car stopped by plainclothes police, loads of police vans. Not sure what was going on. The car had what looked like gunshots in the front windscreen and the back windscreen had been smashed in with baseball bats. I know this is a method used by Flying Squad to get suspected criminals to get out of their cars. The car was then torn apart, with forensics there for a good while. Difficult to know who were the criminals and who were Flying Squad. The car was rammed in by unmarked police cars and cordoned off. One of the policemen mentioned that 'arrests had been made' and that it isn't a good area, understandably. I asked if it was anything to do with the major operation by the Met yesterday on the Adams family crime syndicate, but apparently unconnected. However, it's usually pretty quiet around there apart from a knifing some years back. Anyone know any more about this..........

An article by Stephen Moore published today on the Tottenham and Wood Green Journal website gives a bit of background to this story: Read the Article

I live on Maryland Road and while I missed this (although I understand they stopped the car due to chasing a burglar) I find myself taking umbrage that 'it isn't a good area, understandably' - bar a few of the usual problem houses, it's quiet, has beautiful houses and is largely occupied by families (Greek, Brits, Irish, Asian, Jamaican) who have lived there for donkeys years. Houses rarely change hands. Let's not perpetuate the negative narrative of Wood Green!

Yes, I was a bit taken aback by the policeman's words too, as I live just by where this happened. There isn't any trouble on this road, and in 14 years there has just been a stabbing (non-fatal) and this. These things can happen anywhere, and the burglar wasn't a local, he lives in Enfield. I say 'understandably' as he had just been involved in this 'incident' rather than trying to criticise where I live and have bought a property.

Hello neighbour! I did realise that it was the police saying this rather than you. The negativity about Wood Green does get wearing.

Yes. I used to live in Moss Side and have spent some time in the barrios in Venezuela. Wood Green is a picnic compared to these and even in those places there were still good people. Hello too.

with those credentials, you can be on my team in a fight!

It's a ridiculous comment in light of the fact that the target of the operation is not a local and was, seemingly, passing through. It's also pretty stupid to say it to a local. I'm on Arcadian and, while I am not a fan (for instance) of the less-civilised occupants of the HMO across the road who are responsible for noise/the odd person trying to kick down the door, the rest of the street is perfectly peaceful most of the time.
