Hello all,

I've been using the Barbers on Myddleton Road, but it's been closed now for some time - the owner is away for a long holiday.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a mens hairdresser/barbers.

I'd like my hair to be cut, rather that just clippered.

Any suggestions welcome!

Matt

Lucas Brothers is brilliant -  Hakan spends his time between customers on his laptop, currency trading ... perhaps a long holiday was partly paid for by a bit of extra curricular activity? Lucas Brothers has remained unchanged for many years as this photograph (left) from 1999 shows. (click image to enlarge). The photograph  is one of a part of a sequence taken in 1999 in Myddleton Road by Richard Ainsworth they are terrific images - and persuaded Kevin to restage the photo shoot in Lucas Brothers last year See this article.

AS Lucas Brothers is currently closed why not try Jimmy's (or Zeno's as I think it has been renamed). It's on Green Lanes near Kelvin Avenue - close to the Occasional Half Pub.

It was featured this delightful short film above - part of the excellent Green Line to Green Lanes documentary film series by Film maker Natalia Kouneli.

Another option - a bit further up Green Lanes towards the North Circular - is fairly recent arrival: Turkish Barber Ardan. Not a visit to undertake if you are in a hurry - and they may be a bit too reliant on clippers and razors for your taste ... but they do have that excellent perfomance thing where they have a ball of gauze on a metal skewer - dip it in meths, set fire to it and then flap it about to remove unwanted hair from ears and eyebrows - an invaluable service for chaps of a certain age!

Loucas brothers are opening as soon as the legal stuff gets sorted out. A young barber currently working in the city has taken it over who is happy to invest in Myddleton road.

Great news!

Anita's Hairdresser on Myddleton Road does haircuts for men. It might not look so good outside the shop, but Anita is actually very good at cutting hair and does know her stuff.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll let you know how I get on.  I just need to let me hair grow after a rather short cut recently!

I go to House near Alexandra Palace train station....not a cheap option by any stretch but I've always had to pay a little extra for my mop to look anything approaching decent!

You could always have a Lionel Blair haircut like mine:

So - I did go to Anita's on Myddleton Road and was very happy with the results.  I've been back again and enjoyed some Christmas treats and a good proper haircut with scissors for a good price of £7.

It has now been confirmed that Lucas Brothers are opening in March, under new management.    it is currently undergoing a refit  - i hope that everyone will welcome the re-opening under new management

Hello Emel,

Many thanks for your comment. We are now open for business!

Hello

It's good to see the barbers is finally reopening but I was disappointed to see this morning that the lovely old painted sign has been painted over as part of the renovations. I hope the original tiles on the exterior are going to survive the modernisation and the street won't lose another piece of its heritage.

Hello Amanda,

We have kept the original tiles on the exterior in order to maintain the traditional feel of the area. I hope you like our completed look!
