A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
A report from the Bowes Ward Councillors on recent developments in the area - more information on our local elected representatives page or on the regularly updated Bowes Councillors blog
"With all the initiatives currently running towards the northern end of Bowes ward - including the Warwick Rd 20 mph zone, the Tile Kiln Lane Green Space project and above all the renewal of the North Circular Road - Bowes and Bounds members will understand that their Enfield side councillors have been working hard in recent months on issues whose relevance to Bounds Green area concerns can sometimes be indirect. This is not to say, however, that we have not focused as well on the interest of constituents from the Haringey/Enfield borders - quite the contrary, as attested for instance by recent successful opposition to intensive development plans around Palmerston Rd/Ridgeon Court. Even better is the news that we'd like to share now about a major and very positive development occurring at the top of Palmerston Road, namely the completion of work on the Trinity at Bowes Centre Plus facilities.
Bowes councillors Achilleas, Yasemin and Alan (along with Palmers Green councillor Del Goddard) had the great privilege to be shown around the premises. They are absolutely fantastic and certain to become a new focal point for leisure, sports and cultural activities in our neighbourhoods. The official opening is scheduled for early March - we will keep you apprised - but it is already clear that as more and more community groups start to work out of the TAB Centre Plus (joining the judo club, Over 70s Tea Dance and other structures that have already set up shop there), this will strongly improve the experience of living in Bowes/Bounds Green/Palmers Green for many hundreds of residents, if not more. Already Minister Mark Davenport and his very competent team were able to show us facilities for the aforementioned activities along with basketball, volleyball, badminton, music recording studies, dance halls, etc. You really must go to see it.
Our "political" assessment has always been that Bowes ward suffered for far too long from the previous Enfield administration's kow-towing to pure market forces and allowing developers to increase the area's population density without adding to the quantity and quality of its amenities- the end result being that constituents had to endure a comparatively poor provision of services. Along with our other efforts, the TAB Centre Plus (whose Myplace capital funding was largely secured due to the tireless campaigning of former Bowes Cllr Jeff Rodin) goes a long ways towards redressing this balance. We are delighted with this achievement and look forward to communicating - in conjunction with our friends the Bounds Green councillors Matt, Joanna and Ali- further information about its offer in the months to come."
