On this site we have tried to be supportive of independent local busineses and very keen to promote local shopping. So I was delighted when Hugh from Harringay Online introduced me to a fantastic new Chinese supermarket and seafood shop in Whymark Avenue at the Turnpike Lane end of Wood Green.

South & North is a family run business (run by the Zhou family) they stock an impresive range of ingredients in a bright and welcoming store...

Its fascinating to browse the shelves - but the star of the shop is undoubtedly the fresh seafood - sourced daily from Billingsgate.

The family running the shop are fairly new to the UK and this recently opened shop is definitely worth a visit. I stopped off on my way home from work ... and can personaly vouch for their prawns!

This post may read like an advert ... but it's not. I just think we should all support our independent local traders - or risk losing them to a generic clone town high street - or worse still more betting shops.
