Well done Lucia Das Neves of the We Love Myddleton Road Group - for admirably representing Bowes Park in a discussion with Vanessa Feltz on the BBC London 94.9 breakfast show this week.

Lucia was speaking about the illegal dwelling that was demolished at No. 97 Myddleton Road last year - and the unscrupulous Landlords who are using the pressure on affordable housing in London to make money by flouting planning regulations. Listen to the interview below:

Respect to Lucia and interesting considering Vanessa Feltz herself hails from these parts:

"I hail from the Jewish mercantile classes. Translate that into plain English and I come from a family in which my Dad ran a one-man band underwear business from small premises in London's less than top drawer Bounds Green".

The idea that illegal accommodation should be tolerated because desperate people need to sleep somewhere and some are not actual garden sheds is not a good one.  Consider the impact on fire safety, health & sanitation, council tax, quality of life & pressure on social services.  I doubt anyone would argue in favour if one appeared over their garden fence.  Similarly the idea that councils are conspiring not to take action because such accommodation eases their housing problems and they don't have anywhere to put the evictees seems simplistic.
