Myddleton Road Planning Primer

Hi everyone

 

A growing number of people have expressed an interest in understanding more about the planning process and what we as a community can do to prevent both the remaining commercial premises on Myddleton Road from being turned into tiny bedsits, and existing residential properties from being turned into ever smaller flats.

 

The Planning Group is a sub group of the We Love Myddleton Road community group and one of our aims is to help the community understand the planning process a bit better so that we can all use our collective voice to object to those applications we feel will be detrimental to the area  - and indeed the people living in them – as well as lend our support to the developments we want to see on the road, such as the recent application to restore four of the existing shop fronts.


Every planning application is subject to public consultation, which means we all have the opportunity to comment in favour or in opposition to every planning application.

 

No knowledge of planning law is required in order for you to express a view – please do not feel you have to be a planning expert in order comment. However, particularly in cases where you feel strongly opposed to a development, it can be helpful to site the existing policy and laws as evidence for why an application shouldn’t go ahead.

 

With that in mind, the Planning Group has tried to summarise some of the main arguments and respective policies you may want to consider referencing in your objections. We’re calling it a “Planning primer” and for those of you who want to get into greater detail, we are also producing a more detailed guide to the planning laws. This is by no means comprehensive but it does summarise the key arguments and the corresponding legal backing.
