An interesting new housing development is nearing completion in Bounds Green. I met the developer Stephen Alexander Morris at the site and got some background on the project.

The site is on a crescent shaped piece of back land adjacent to Corbett Close - currently accessed from the end of Imperial Road - and running alongside the railway cutting round to Bounds Green Road.

The development is of eight new houses in two groups either side of a central section of woodlands comprising existing mature elm, oak, maple and ash trees along with new planting of fruit trees. The plan is to complete a well-landscaped development to retain privacy and form a green buffer between the development and the railway line.

The houses are a mix of, terraced and detached properties. There will be pedestrian access to the main road but at present the location and design makes the development almost invisible from Bounds Green Road - apart from a view of the end property with its distinctive black brick and curving green roof planted with sedum.

The architects for this project are Studio Verve - whose website includes some fascinating construction phase photography and a more detailed view of the elegant brickwork design, good-sized windows, and circular, porthole-style skylights.

The development conforms to Government Code 4 Sustainable Homes regulations. The living roof of each block carries around six tonnes of soil and drainage systems which are then planted with sedum - a difficult task to achieve at a 40 degree pitch. The roofing was installed by specialist contractor Organic Roofs who also have a gallery of construction photography online. In addition the roofs each include a Photovoltaic panels drawing solar energy into the development.

The buildings will soon be completed and occupied with neighbours moving into this stylish new Bounds Green development.

This development looks impressive - high quality and well-considered. Such a relief to see housing built sustainably, and I love the sedum roofs. If only we could have more like this.
