New River Development: Haringey application refused but developers plan to appeal

Important message from Doris Quinn about urgent planning appeal.

In Autumn 2010 local residents successfully opposed a building application on the New River path, but the developer have decided to appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

This will be the last chance to voice your objections, very easy to do online on the Planning Inspectorate's website if the appeal will be granted this building monstrosity will go ahead and the New River Path opposite/alongside our houses will change dramatically.

I've copied the letter I've received from the council informing me of the appeal for your information.

The Planning Inspectorate have introduced an online appeals service which you can use to comment on this appeal. You can find the service through the Appeal area of the Planning Portal www.planningportal.gov.uk/pcs. Search for APP/Q5300/A/11/2145239 .

If you would like to see the developer's plans again and/or read any relevant documentation please go to www.enfield.gov.uk/info/200056/planning_applications and search for TP/10/1203 and TP/10/1195.

The deadline is approaching very quickly and if you are concerned please act now.
Kind Regards,

Doris Quinn

Summary details proposed planning:
TP/10/1203 Demolition of existing garages and erection of a detached 2-storey block of 4 x 2-bed self contained flats with accommodation in mansard roof, balconies to rear and undercroft parking together with provision of additional surface car parking.

TP/10/1195 Construction of new roof with front dormers and rear terraces, to provide 2 addditional 2-bed flats.

Summarising, these are two building applications for two developments: the extension of a current block, plus a complete new housing block, in effect 3 storeys high, lining up to the wall of the New River with overhanging balconies to the New River grounds for self-contained 2 bedroom flats on 75 Palmerston, Ridgeon Court.

If this new housing block will be built it will:

  • Destroy the tranquility and secluded feel of the river path
  • Invite further building projects to be proposed so close to the River
  • Have a major negative impact on this wildlife corridor which is of ecologic significance
  • Increase of noise and disturbance
  • Increase traffic and congestion
  • Add to the overcrowding of the area with unsuitable spaced accommodation
