A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Following the last meeting of the North London Waste Authority on 26 September, the Authority has announced that it is abandoning its controversial procurement based on granting a £3 to £4 billion 30-year contract to multinational companies to manage its municipal waste. The Authority’s announcement can be seen at http://www.nlwa.gov.uk/news/newsdetail/2013/09/27/north-london-wast...
Unfortunately the Authority’s announcement indicates that they are still considering using the Pinkham Way site for waste: they only exclude its use for residual (i.e. non recyclable) waste.
We remain optimistic however! Thanks to everyone who signed the PWA petition.

The NLWA is pointing out that It was actually LAST APRIL when it withdrew its planning application for a "mechanical and biological treatment plant" at Pinkham Way, for residual domestic waste.
What has JUST happened is that there is not now going to be a multi-billion private-sector contract to handle the NLWA waste, or at least not for another five years.
That does not necessarily have any bearing on what waste processing methods are used or where. It just means the operation stays in the public sector.
