The Bowes Park Community Association is presently negotiating with Thames Water to use the small piece of land behind the mural gates, opposite the community gardens in Myddleton Road. One idea for use of this land is to install an outdoor gym with perhaps a permanent table tennis table for use by local residents to encourage fitness, fun and friendliness.

A rounded corner, concrete ping-pong table would cost c£3,200 plus fitting. Other equipment might be an exercise bike and double stroller which might be another £2 - £3k .

We would need a grant towards the costs of this with the BPCA possibly able to supplement this. We would like to make an application for a Making the Difference grant

Outdoor or "green" gyms seem to be in vogue!

The Friends of Broomfield Park are putting in a Residents Priority Fund application to the Southgate Green Councilors to install some outdoor exercise equipment In Broomfield Park, the proposed location is the old croquet lawn next to the Orchard.

The plan is to secure enough funding for 12 pieces of equipment to suit all ages above 12yrs. examples of the sort of equipment proposed include those shown below.

I really love this idea in theory, as I think anything to promote exercise, community spirit and fun is fantastic. My only question is the maintenance of the equipment and cost of the upkeep if any of it breaks. I'm rather excited about the prospect of a ping-pong table!
