Late-night revellers will be able to travel home from Christmas parties by Tube this year as the start date for the Piccadilly line Night Tube was announced for 16 December.
The line will become the fifth to operate a 24-hour weekend service with the Northern line launching later this month.
The Piccadilly line, which will run every ten minutes between Cockfosters and Heathrow Terminal 5, could also boost Christmas shopping as staff will be able to get to and from work more easily.
The services will also make travel to the airport quicker and easier for those catching early weekend flights, as well as linking the museums and restaurants of Kensington to the music venues of Hammersmith and the cultural hotspots of the West End.
Sadiq Khan, announcing the start date, said: “We’ve seen how enthusiastically Londoners have embraced the Night Tube, and I am delighted that we’ve exceeded expectations with more than one million journeys made already.
“The addition of the Piccadilly line will help even more thousands of Londoners every weekend, from those taking in the capital’s cultural landmarks to the many workers who keep London open around the clock.”
Business leaders welcomed the new 24-hour service which, along with the other Night Tubes, is expected to boost London’s night-time economy by £77 million a year and support 2,000 jobs.
