The following message has been forwarded from members of the Pinkham Way Alliance - campaigning against the siting of one of the largest MBT waste processing sites in Europe adjacent to our area.

Dear Neighbours,

As part of its Core Strategy, last year Haringey Council changed the designation of the Pinkham Way site from 'employment' use to 'industrial' use. The effect of this change is to pave the way for the massive waste plant proposed by the North London Waste Authority to be granted planning permission.

Haringey Council has now been forced to repeat the consultation on the major reclassification of the use of the Pinkham Way site, because its original consultation was found to be inadequate. The new consultation runs until 5pm on Thursday 3rd November 2011, and it is vital that as many local residents as possible make their views known.
I know it's half-term, but please write to the council making it clear you have concerns about the change of designation of the Pinkham Way site from employment use to industrial use. The council formally refers to this as ‘employment land designations in SP8 Employment of the Core Strategy, change of land designation for DEA6 from employment land to locally significant industrial site.’
There are a number of grounds on which you can object to the change of use for the Pinkham Way site.
These include:

  • The suitability of using the site for industrial use when it has been previously listed as green space that should be protected.
  • The environmental impact of using the site for industrial use, particularly when the site is very close to a built up residential area and local schools.
  • The limited consultation that has been carried out and Haringey Council’s failure to adequately consult local people and inform them of the re-consultation.
  • The loss of land for employment use and the impact this will have on creating new jobs.

The documents are available to view online at: http://bit.ly/corestrategy_consultation  (The relevant pages are: page 22 bottom right-hand box and Pages 14 and 34.)

Responses should be made by email to ldf@haringey.gov.uk or in writing to:
LDF Team, London Borough of Haringey, River Park House (6th Floor), Wood Green, N22 8HQ.

Please also copy your objection to the Planning Inspectorate, email address: Allison.Ingham@pins.gsi.gov.uk

It is critical that as many local residents as possible respond to this consultation by 3rd November,
so please forward this email to friends and neighbours.

If instead you prefer to add your name to the Pinkham Way Alliance's response to the consultation, please visit www.PinkhamWayAlliance.org - it will take just a minute or two.

Thanks and best wishes

We have been contacted bu the Pinkham Way Alliance who are campaigning this week to get the message out about Haringeys consultation on the re-designation of the Pinkham way site to Industrial use mentioned above.

A new Leflet has been produced - and they are looking for volunteers to deliver to local streets before the consultation deadline.

More power to the Pinkham Way Alliance.

But let us not forget the necessity of producing less waste in the first place, and try to only buy manufactured goods that can be reused, recycled or composted. (Pinkham Way is for residual [black-bag] waste.)

I have added a link to, and some content from, this page on OpinioN8 under a slightly broader heading relating to Haringey's Core strategy consultation.

I most definitely agree that we each need to become responsible for what we use ... and dispose of.

We have a couple of pages on the site that detail both ideas for waste reduction and the huge number of recycling / re-use projects that are operating locally.

It is interesting that although the seven London Boroughs in the North London Waste Authority have managed to put forward proposals for one of the biggest waste disposal plants in Europe - they have not, between them, managed to agree a consistent approach to roadside domestic re-cycling!

News about the consultation this week from the Pinkham Way Alliance:

More than 1550 people put their name to the PWA response, and Haringey received well over 100 individual submissions.

How many responses did they get last time they consulted on this contentious issue, in late 2010?

It was 10...
