Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a murder in north London.

Police were alerted at 15.10hrs on Thursday 29 September to reports of a man stabbed within a butcher's at The Broadway, Wood Green N22.

A man believed to be in his early 20s was treated by the ambulance service, but died at the scene.

He was a member of staff at the business - Halal Food Direct, 16 The Broadway.

We await formal identification and confirmation that all next-of-kin are aware.

A post-mortem will be held in due course - possibly on Friday.

An incident room has opened at Belgravia under DCI Steven Lawrence from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Lawrence said: "At this early stage it appears there was dispute in the shop which resulted in the victim being stabbed. The male suspect then made off from the premises on foot.

"This incident occurred in a busy area in the middle of the afternoon, and we need to hear from any witnesses who have not yet come forward. Did you see anything that may be of use? Did you see in which direction the suspect ran off?

"It is essential that anyone with information contacts the police as soon as possible."
