Do you know a socially active and inspirational young person in Haringey? The Diana Award and Positive Youth News Haringey are working together to identify young people in Haringey who have made an outstanding contribution to their community. Whether they are volunteers, fundraisers, campaigners, mentors, carers or anyone who has worked for the benefit of others the Diana Award wants to hear about them.

Making a nomination is simple and receiving the Diana Award is life-changing for these young people.

Visit www.diana-award.org.uk to make your nominations by 15 November 2013.

The Diana Award was founded as a legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. Since 1999, it has recognised 39,000 young people who have made a positive difference to their community. By shining the spotlight on these young people with the Diana Award, it establishes them as role models to others.

This year the Diana Award has teamed up with Positive Youth News Haringey, a youth led organisation, set up in 2011 after the Tottenham riots, which aims to challenge the negative media representation of Haringey and highlighting the achievements of local young people.

Positive Youth News Haringey will be leading locally on a campaign to help find inspirational young people from the borough to be nominated and considered for a Diana Award.

“Daily we showcase the inspirational achievements of young people from Haringey. They deserve to be properly recognised and we are proud to team up with the Diana Awards to hopefully make that happen. Please take out a few minutes to let amazing young people you know be considered for an award”. Says Seema Chandwani Project Director, Positive Youth News Haringey

Haringey’s MPs David Lammy [Tottenham] and Lynne Featherstone [Hornsey and Wood Green] are proudly supporting the campaign:

“Thanks to organisations like Positive Youth News, those of us living in Tottenham know just how inspirational our young people can be. Nominating a young person for a Diana Awards is just one way that we can ensure our young people get the recognition they deserve.”
Says David Lammy MP

“The Diana Award rightly celebrates the young people who make a positive difference to their communities and the lives of others. It would be fantastic for a young person in Haringey to receive the award – to raise awareness of their contribution and to encourage them to keep up the good work.

“Following all of Positive Youth News great work to highlight the valuable contribution of youngsters to our borough, I’m sure that everyone now knows someone young and inspirational – so please do nominate them!”
Says Lynne Featherstone MP

”Receiving a Diana Award is just the beginning. Through the Diana Network and the anti-bullying and mentoring programmes, we engage, encourage and empower young people to harness their skills and continue to contribute to society.”
Says Tessy Ojo Chief Executive, Diana Award

The Diana Network, offers young people the opportunity to volunteer, gain valuable life skills and put these into practice with internships and work placements in the UK. Young people can also join the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Programme, enabling them to speak up and become the voice of anti-bullying in their communities.
