Enfield Council cabinet have now endorsed the long awaited plans for redevelopment of Palmers Green Library. The work is associated with plans to redevelop the adjacent Town Hall building in preparation for sale as housing.

The proposals mean that the library will be closed for just over a year. Initial plans to allow local people to access a temporary library in the car park off Lodge Avenue will not be followed through so library users will have to find alternative branches - our nearest is the stylishly designed Bowes Road Library within the Arnos Pool complex.

There will be two phases of work at Palmers Green the first to separate the library from the town Hall will begin imminently meaning the library will be temporarily closed from Sunday 23rd November to Monday 3rd February 2014. Then re-open for a short time before the second, major phase of work next year - plans are to have everything completed by summer of 2015. The proposals include establishing a new public square in front of the library - including an "landmark or gateway" clock tower as detailed below:

There will be an exhibition at Palmers Green library on Saturday 2nd November with staff available, where you can find out more. You can also contact Palmers Green Library on 020 8379 2711/2754

A public meeting will also be held Tuesday 29th October 5.30pm-7pm and LB Enfield have a dedicated webpage about the changes. Full plans and council cabinet papers can be downloaded here
