This year the service is being held on Friday 10th November instead of 11th November (Armistice Day) so that pupils from local schools can take part in the Remembrance Service. The pupils from Broomfield Secondary and Bowes, Hazelwood and Walker Primary schools will be reading poems and singing songs from the First World War as part of the centenary commemorations. Our new MP for Enfield Southgate, Bambos Charalambous, and the Deputy Mayor of Enfield, Cllr Doris Jiagge, will be attending along with local councillors and representatives of the British Legion.

The service is being led by Rev. Chrichton Limbert, vicar of Christ Church, Southgate and will include a rededication of the war memorial and parts of the Garden which have benefited from a generous grant of £63,000 from the War Memorial Trust. A new plinth and fountain (replicating the original design) has been installed in the pond and a new roof has been put on the war memorial temple to make it watertight.

The existing birdbath, which was in poor condition, has now been restored with an upright plinth and new stone bowl. Other features including the cairn, paving, steps and walls of the Garden have been repaired with broken parts replaced and made safer for visitors. A representative from the War Memorial Trust will be coming to the Service.

Not all the work has been completed yet and the Friends expect the new stained glass windows for the memorial temple and the handrails by the steps (to help the elderly and disabled) will be installed very soon.

Once this work has been finished the Garden of Remembrance will be open every day as it was before the work started.

At the end of the service the Palmers Greenery cafe will be open and selling 'wartime' cakes which can be enjoyed with tea and coffee.
