Winter is a-coming in.. let's prepare for snow, whether it comes or not.

Our councils will grit major roads and the busiest pavement areas, but it's down to us to keep other places clear.

Enfield Council provide help-yourself salt sacks near steep roads (not sure if Haringey do this too) - not in relatively flat Bowes Park, though.

But prevention (ie keeping pavements clear of snow) is better than cure (putting grit on it).  All you need to do is run a spade along the middle of the pavement when the snow first falls, just wide enough to put one foot in front of the other.  (And stockpile snow for unofficial Best Snowman in Bowes Park contest.)

This doesn't take much effort, the snow isn't left to freeze, and you don't need grit/salt as long as you keep clearing.  I'm not an expert though - any comments anyone?
