Sunday 2nd September, noon to 7pm, one big day for your diary.

The 11th Palmers Green Festival will be in Broomfield Park with the music, dancing, 100+ stalls, fun fair, dog competitions, UK’s tallest climbing mobile wall, art exhibition and all the other usual, but this year we’re overlaying everything with a Health and Wellbeing theme, in particular healthier communities and healthier people. So expect a good dose of democracy from a new political soapbox and food and fitness stuff to help you live longer and better. Incredibly it will again be free, but do use the “donate” button on the festival’s web site, because after all someone does have to pay for it all www.palmersgreenfestival.org.uk

The festival build-up will again see the Broomfield Blues taking over the bandstand lawn on each Sunday afternoon during August. Plans for 2018 are to have two top-drawer headline quality acts each afternoon – free again, but a fiver in the collecting hat, per person, helps feed the musicians. Why not try the weekly host club before you buy www.thevintage.org.uk . Look out for details of the acts nearer the time.

And once again Talkies’ picnic in the park in the dark will be screening the Friday evening before festival. This year it’s Pirates of the Caribbean – Curse of the Black Pearl, with a strong fancy dress theme.  Tickets are available now, and probably not for long based on previous experience. www.talkies.org.uk

Yo ho ho. Don’t you wish you lived in PG.
