A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Hello everyone, I would like to share details of something that happened at about 6pm this evening, 3 January, in Queens Road.
I was upstairs and heard my letter slot snap very quietly a few times. There was no loud knock, it sounded almost as if the wind was moving the flap. I went downstairs to check and, through my open venetian blind, I saw a young, slim black man outside my door. I gestured “What do you want?” and he indicated that he wanted to talk to me. He was holding a cloth bag and I think his hand seemed a bit shaky. I thought he was either a delivery man wanting to leave something for a neighbour, or one of those people who sell tea towels etc on the doorstep.
I made the decision to open the door. “What do you want?” I asked again. “I want to talk to you," he said, “Very gorgeous.” I slammed the door in his face and locked it. I closed the blind and didn’t see what he did then.
He did seem odd, either with mental health problems or possibly some drug issue. But it did freak me out. It would be alarming if I had been singled out so I hope that the incident was random.
One of my male neighbours came to check on me and to see if this man was still around but there was no sign of him.
I have reported the incident to the police so they have it on record and can circulate the details in case this has happened elsewhere.
If this has happened to anyone else or if anyone can throw any light on it, please let me know.
Thanks.
Diana
