A new local pop-up cinema project, Talkies, has been featured in the North London News this week.

Talkies is a not-for-profit and volunteer-led community cinema, based in the Palmers Green, Bounds Green, Southgate and Winchmore Hill areas of North London.

Talkies has been organising pop-up film events at a range of venues for the last few months. They encourage people to come together to make new connections and meet up with friends; they aim to provide at least one event a month within the locality.

Screenings are organised at unusual locations and have the express purpose of getting people together for a more interactive event than a visit to a drab multiplex.

At their recent screening of Blues Brothers - at the Fox pub - for example local Blues musicians from the St Harmonicas Blues Club added to the fun. Talkies also participated in a distributed short-film festival with two screenings at an evening event at Baskervilles Tea Rooms on Aldermans Hill in Palmers Green.

Talkies next production is a screening of O Brother Where Art Thou on April 24th. A new series at Enfield's Dugdale Centre on the first Thursday of each month will extend the programme over the summer. Everyone is welcome, but booking in advance is recommended to be sure of a place.
