I was coming home on Saturday evening at around 10.30 and turned into my street, Queens Road. A few houses up from the junction with Bounds Green Road, there were two men standing on the pavement, urinating against the garden wall of someone's house, in full view of any passersby as if it was a perfectly acceptable thing to do. I told them it was disgusting but they seemed to think it was funny and then one of them shouted something obscene at me, again thinking it was funny. Judging by their accents, I believe they were Eastern European.

I don't know what anyone can do about this kind of thing but I personally don't want to live among people who behave in this way - or more importantly, whose values are so different that they see nothing offensive in this kind of behaviour. I am spending a lot of time and money renovating my house to make it beautiful but I came home wondering if it was worth the effort if this is increasingly going to be the kind of neighbourhood I am living in.

Has anyone had similar experiences or any bright ideas about how to discourage this kind of behaviour?

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago turning into Whittington Road at about 9pm one week night but it was just one man. Because I was so shocked and also because it had occurred to me that the man may be mentally ill, I'm afraid I didn't say anything.  But I agree that it's deeply disturbing that we're living amongst people who think this is acceptable.  I'm afraid I don't have any bright ideas.

Hi Diana,

Yes I see it pretty much every day in Woodside Park, where men urinate in broad daylight against the fence between the park and St. Thomas Moore School and Earlham Primary. Men working for Veolia are particularly visible in their bright gear. I talked to some of them and suggested that their behaviour near two schools and in full visibility from a playground was particularly inappropriate, but they looked at me as if I was from another planet.

I will have to write to Veolia, although they are not the only ones doing it.
