This website has seen considerable discussion  and major concern about the impact of the enormous NLWA  waste processing plant proposed for the Pinkham Wood site.

However it is a fact that waste has to go somewhere - and it is an issue that each household can do something about.

By reducing the amount of waste we each produce - and recycling as much as we can the amount of material going to landfill, incineration or other reprocessing can be reduced.

But it can be a bit of a confusing picture knowing what can be recycled and what you can do about creating waste in the first place.

Adam Paul has produced a great set of local information for us firstly about Waste Prevention and a second comprehensive list of the wide range of materials that can be recycled and where to do this locally. Although these are extensive lists please do add any further ideas or tips about reducing the waste we produce locally.

The lists are included on the Resources Section of the site along with lots of other useful local information about transport, education and policing etc.

Don't forget free cycle. www.freecycle.org/enfield. There is one for Enfield and Haringey an excellent way to share and reuse your goods and avoid landfill . I have used it loads, met some nice people and recycled and reused a lot of stuff from sheds to cassette tapes
Using a milkman is another good move. I know those plastic milk bottles can apparently be recycled, but glass bottles can be reused pretty much indefinitely and the process uses a fraction of the energy it takes to recycle plastic. Anyway, I like waking up to milk (and apple juice) on my doorstep. There is a milkman who serves Bounds Green and Bowes Park (sorry no details) , and in the Alexandra Park area, Palace Dairies seems to do good business and are very reliable.
