THE AIM OF the London Sound Survey is to grow a collection of Creative Commons-licensed sound recordings of people, places and events in the capital. Historical references too are gathered to find out how London's sounds have changed. The  London Sound Survey website provides an entertaining diversion!

One of their projects "The 12 Tones of London"  describes variations in sounds across London by using a statistical analysis to select 12 out of London's 623 council wards aiming to generalise sound profiles across relatively large swathes of the capital; crucially investigating how demographic factors such as class, ethnicity and age affect how different bits of the city sound.
