I found Springfield Park today. It doesn't look like anyone's looking after its nature reserve. There's loads of rubbish in it, the gates are broken - all with danger of drowning warnings to parents yet wedged wide open for small ones to run through - beer cans bobbing in the pond. There are loads of bird boxes and feeders about, and plenty of birdlife but all the feeders and tables were empty today.

There's a proud sign fixed to one of the big oaks saying it was opened by the Mayor of Haringey but I'm sure if he went back he'd be dismayed. Council cutbacks I guess, but isn't there a local friends group who could look after it? Couldn't the school use it for volunteering and education?
