Thought you may be interested in some oldish histrory. My dad was the manager of S. Brigg and Son the sports shop by the bridge near the Odeon on Wood Green High Road. He worked there before the war and rejoined in 1946,eventually becoming manager. He and mum lived in Palmers Green (they were married in1944 in St Johns Church) and dad was first on Lancester bombers and then went off to Australia until 1946. I was born in1953 and fast foward to when I wax 10 in 1963 and my first trip with dad to thr Saturday morning pictures at the Odeon AND my first ever visit to A Wimpy bar - on the corner of Jolly Butchers hill near the post office. ("as an aside my mum who was born in1914 remembered the first world war victory parade in 1919 where the tanks slipped on Jolly Butchers Hill as their metal tracks did not grip and they slid down the hill. Anyway, back to Woodgreen High Rd. I remember my first transistor radio came from H W Stones and my first tape recorder - a, Robuk - was brought for me by Mum and Dad from Bartons. So beside Briggs was Savilles, then Davis and Kay photographic. Next door eas Berrys sweet shop a d by the closed Noel Park railway station a newsagents. Happy days folks.
