This morning  I saw builders puting up a wooden hoarding around Wood Green Police Station on the corner of High Road & Nightingale. This follows a few days of demolition of annexe buildings at the back.

I hope the new development will leave the facade of this handsome building intact.

i dont know why this is closing, the police just sit in vans these days letting the engines run idle, just like Boris didnt want! and the safer neighbourhoods offices, whats the point when a man is gunned down on the doorstep of the office at Turnpike lane, does anyone else feel the police are taking 100 steps backwards? dont forget, we are paying for the police, but not to sit around reading the paper, but to actually police!

My understanding is that during consultation at the planning stage, the opinions of local residents (including those of the Friends of Woodside Park) were taken into account and the plans were amended to ensure that the original facade was retained.  The Friends thought it was vital to preserve the frontage one of the relatively few interesting older buildings in Wood Green, especially now that the Council has sold off the Mushroom House in the corner of Woodside Park (junction of Green Lanes and Woodside Road).  This is a listed building dating from the 1820s but will soon disappear from public view as the new owner has planted leylandii trees all around the garden.  Hey ho!
