A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
I'm a newbie that hasn't been to Freelance Friday before, but I heard about it on twitter.
I wondered whether anyone would be interested in getting together informally sometime? I'd love to have a bit of cafe/work/discussion/sharing time if anyone is up for it.
As an aside, I'm thinking of setting up a small low key coworking space for local freelancers this year, most probably to be run as a social enterprise so that we can get council/GLA funding for the set up. Seems like there might be interest in the area. So if you'd be interested in keeping in touch on that, please let me know too.
Just saw this now (after I sent the email to you). Do keep me posted if you do set up something more local.
Thanks Diana...that's great! Maybe we can re-ignite the Freelance Fridays, or I'd be happy to meet up separately. I'll keep you updated on how the coworking space develops too.
If there's ever an evening get-together I'd be up for coming... during the day something (or more often a client needing work done at short notice) usually crops up... that's why I could never make a Freelance Friday when it was running.
Hi Diana and Steve
Sorry as I meant to post this onto here but have done it in a few different places so obviously missed this thread!
The good news is that there are a few people locally that have expressed an interest in having a meetup/informal coworking session in a cafe so we are proposing that we try to meet on Friday 6th February from 2pm, at a location to be agreed (possibly around turnpike lane, as that's in the middle for most people).
I've started a meetup group so that any who are interested can join (even if you can't make this date) and it'll automatically tell you about other future meetups.
The details are here: http://www.meetup.com/Haringey-Freelancers-group/events/220115413/
Would be lovely to see you if you can make it!
The coworking space is slowly coming along and I am meeting with the council very soon, so I hope to have some news on that front. The most important things from me and my partner's point of view (we're both setting it up - me as a freelancer and him as a facilities manager) are that a) it's flexible as many people won't want full time and just the occasional time working with others and b) that it's really engaged with the local business community so we want to try and create a community rather than just renting desks. It's all about people after all!
Anyway that was all very long but hope to see maybe both of you on the 6th if you're about.
PS Steve - totally understand your situation - I am often the same and it's the nature of freelance work that you just have to drop everything when the work comes in! I've had one other person ask about evening get togethers so will see how the daytime coworking sessions go first and then see where we are. Maybe join the group anyway and if there are any you can suddenly make then pop down?
That's great - it's going to be at Karamel cafe at on Coburg Road.
I'll post an update...have been meaning to do this all day but you've reminded me!
Be great to see you - looking forward to it.
Sounds good, hopefully I'll make it to a get-together soon.
I'll try and get there in time. Should manage to arrive about 4.30pm. Looking forward to meeting more local freelancers.
