Photographs of the traditional Greek Orthodox Good Friday procession of the bier (representing Christ's funeral).
One procession leaves St Barnabas Church on Finsbury Road and moves west along Trinity Road, A second Procession leaves St Mary's Church and moves out east via Green Lanes and back around Bounds Green Road where the two processions meet for a short service and then return to their respective churches.
A remarkable sight on the streets of Wood Green - the warm Easter weekend weather added to the Mediteranean feel of the event.
What time does this begin please, Richard?
Lindsey
I'm not sure it runs to a very tight timetable - but it's in the evening around 8:00 - 8:30ish
Thanks for the Link back from Londonist! very generous.
Had a comment on the post on londonist saying that Greek Easter is a week later than our Easter, so the parade might not be on Good Friday... but I can't find any info online.
Shame I didn't think to check when me and Pete popped into the Cathedral to have a look round yesterday!
That's a very good point Orthodox Easter is later (something to do with the Gregorian Calendar?) However this set of images was uploaded late on the evening of April 22nd last year which was Good Friday ...
Thanks Richard!
