Thanks for the tip off of where to find it, Richard!

A comment on this photograph arrived by e-mail:Tony Newton writes

Like all art it is meaningless except as an imaginative representation of the idea,
"wonder what it would be like if I lived like a tortoise".
Its real bizarreness is  what the body of the human must be like,  not like anyone has ever seen.
It looks relatively fresh, no real signs of perishing, so must have been done in last 20 years -
possibly much less.

It is on the entrance gateway to the commercial premises in Clarence Road that have been empty for about a year. The previous occupant was a company that specialised in building sets for TV commercials and films. There used to be allsorts of odd props in their yard. I guess this little figure is something left over from a film shoot.

Thanks Colin and thanks to Tony as well.

I adore this statue. I hope it never leaves. It still surprises me when I approach it.

It will be moved to a higher perch on the building after the builders have finished re-jigging the building into 3 beautiful flats. Fulcrum Building Design recently gained conservation area planning consent for the changes after there was no interest shown in the building as a commercial use.

The tortoise man is back! I'm very happy. He's higher up than before, but now looking the other way and today he had the sun on his face. Looks like they've done a nice job on the building.
