A photograph of Broomfield House - before the fire which has left it in a semi-derelict state for decades.

Wow - it was quite something! So sad it's just been sat there all neglected for so long. It would make - at the very least - a really great tea room.
Brilliant: can I get more of this?
But who on earth commissioned the mock tudor extension? Victorian version of brick cladding?
Hi Jonathan, Hugh
There have been many proposals to redevelop Broomfield House since it was largely destroyed by fire in the 1980s
The latest plans for the restoration aim to bring the house back to its nineteenth century appearance, without the mock Tudor facade added in the 1930s.
You can read about the plans - and have your say in an online survey by following this link
Sadly the latest version of the plans have failed to get the lottery funding needed to restore the building.
This is really sad news. Check out http://www.broomfieldhouse.org/ to find out more about the house.
