Well, it's triangular, although the column seems a bit bland. It's nice to have a bit of a landmark, and a clock is a good idea. I notice that the clock face has the Roman numeral for 4 as 'IV'. The majority of, but by no means all, clocks using Roman numerals use 'IIII' for 4. The reason, I believe is aesthetic, ie it 'balances' the two halves of the clock face - but don't take that as definite.

I like it!  It's good to see a traditional clock face with the Roman numerals and lovely hands - especially  when so many people now don't even use watches because they have the time on their mobiles. 

And digital clocks don't show time at all, just the present flying by.  With a clock like this you see the past and the future, how much time's gone by and how much is to come within the space of an hour.  Children will be able to look at it and get the idea of time. 

What are the designs?  Is it to do with Palmers Green?  They remind me of the pilgrim scallop shell.

Yes, I like it too.  What about a tree though, to replace the beautiful chestnut that was there up until a couple of years ago?

Let's hope it's maintained properly and keeps good time! I agree with Michael about a tree. Perhaps an evergreen that could be decorated at Christmas?

A tree is a great idea!   Maybe they would choose one of Bruce Yang's trees - the autistic boy who grows hundreds from seed and gives them away?

Kathleen, The details of the clock design are interesting  - Enfield based designer Kareen Cox drew on elements from the surrounding architecture which are reflected in the clock design. Have a look at this page for information on the design.

Michael - Yes I remember the grand old chestnut tree - it had to be cut down a few years back as it was diseased ... but it is recorded in this video by Hugh Humpreys of the N21.net website.

I would love to see it replaced - but it would take several decades for a new sapling to reach the size of the old tree.

Thanks for those links Richard.  What a shame about the tree - it was beautiful.  I love the video.   And the details about  the design of the clock are very clear and nicely presented.  It's all fascinating stuff!
