Last Car to Bowes Park by Martin "Cynicus" Anderson.
How did you get on with the Tube strike this week? Some local buses looked a little like this picture! It was painted by Scottish Victorian artist Martin Anderson under the pseudonym "Cynicus" - Anderson was an accomplished painter but met commercial success as a satirical cartoonist with his sketches reproduced as cheap postcards. He set up his own postcard publishing business in 1902 and by simply overprinting his designs with many different locations made a universal concern - like overcrowded omnibuses - specific to a particular location. A very smart bit of marketing. However despite rapid early growth in the publishing company it failed - leaving Anderson living in poverty in the mansion home, (known locally as "Cynicus Castle") that he had built on the proceeds. He died in 1932 and was buried in an unmarked grave.

That's fantastic. I left later than usual this morning and the 10am from Bowes Park to Moorgate was busy but only 4 minutes late. I hear that earlier in the morning it was sardines - looks like BBC's Tom Edwards was on one.
