"When the air-raid siren was next to this police box, my brother and I used to wait on our way to Bowes Road School hoping that the siren would sound. If it did, we could go home again!"

"I lived in Bowes Road at the time and remember being woken up in the night by the sound of the explosion from the Brownlow Road Synagogue V2.
From memory I believe the Chemists on the SE corner of the junction was called Aspdens. SW was Oscroft…"
