Hi,I used to live at 209 Bowes Rd way back in the late 70's-mid 80's and drove past recently and could not believe what they have done to the place. The road was scheduled to be built back in the 60's,but was always put off, which was also the main reason I moved away,as the whole area was blighted and you never knew what was going to happen next.I was really surprised to see 209 still standing, and even more surprised to see it was being renovated,as it was one of the properties at the top of the DOT's list for demolition;little wonder as it was owned by them.

Anyway,I notice most of the houses, that were forcibly taken by those crooked men at the DOT,are in fact still standing, and are obviously being got ready for sale, albeit at vast profits.I really don't understand how they got away with what they did.The other surprise was the shops along the parade by Brownlow Rd,as not one of them appeared to be the same, other than the Chemist on the corner of Brownlow and Bowes Rd.This seems to have changed names since I last went past in 1984,and I can't for the life of me,remember what the name was back then, even though I used it all the time.If anybody knows what the name was in the early 80's I would be pleased to hear.

It appears that the whole area has been made worse by what these lunatics have done,as the benefits from their "road widening" do not seem to justify the cost or,disruption caused.I really liked living in New Southgate and remember some really good times whilst I lived there.I would imagine most of the people that I knew in the area have long gone, including my Dentist,Bank, and Optician.
