1953 A not so elegant Shaftesbury Hall played host to a number of events to celebrate the coronation.

This included a fancy dress competition for children.

My sister and I were presented as Sir Walter Raleigh and Elizabeth 1st.

I also remember near to hear was a smelly stream where when we could escape we fished with a net for minnows and sticklebacks. Great fun and no cost.
