Event Description

OPEN INVITE - FREE to everyone! Learning circle organised by the organisers of The Myddleton Road Wassail.
Did you know that HALF of England is owned by less than 1% of the population?
1000 years ago there was common access to land to grow food and satisfy our basic needs. Today, we're forced to depend on an unstable, toxic global food market and exploitative landlords. This system has been forced upon us, through what is known as the 'Enclosures' of our lands; through rich people violently stealing land from our peasant land working ancestors and the land workers of today.
Key to this understanding is that British colonialism was, and still is, inseparable from the Enclosures. The British Empire's violent colonisation of much of the planet was made possible through the violent colonisation of British common land from our ancestors.
Now, 92% of land in England remains private property, and much of the world still reflects this land injustice with rich individuals and corporations owning most of the land, therefore having the ability to exploit the rest of us.
We have a case for reparations, to repair the harm inflicted on our community - we just have to learn and organise ourselves to change it.
Join us this month as we continue our collective knowledge building through monthly Popular Education Circles on Land Justice, based at Wolves Lane Community Garden (N22) on 25th Feb 2024. 2pm-4.30.
Drop us a message if you're local and want to get involved in designing and co-facilitating these spaces with us.
