Meanderings In Mill Hill
Assemble at Arnos Grove Station at 1.30, with a view to catching bus 251 at 1.40. We will alight at Totteridge War Memorial, cross over the road (carefully) to look at the war memorial, and walk through the churchyard. Then down a path through woods, and across fields, and along the Folly Brook.
There will then be a short break at the Finchley Garden Centre (limited refreshments and primitive toilets). Then up the hill to Burton Hole Lane and along the Ridgeway to Mill Hill Village with its village green and pond and the shortest High Street in London. Then through the grounds of Mill Hill School to Page Street, along the old railway line (which ran from Edgware to Finsbury Park) to Mill Hill East Station. Then to The Mill pub at Holders Hill (this was where we took refreshments on the Dollis Brook walk a couple of years ago). Then walk back to Mill Hill East and either bus 221 (every 12 minutes) to Bounds Green, or bus 382 (every half hour) to Arnos Grove.
Those not wishing to do the full walk can catch bus 221 at Page Street.
The walk is about 3 miles, comprising woodland, open fields, rural roads and some urban roads, and an old railway path. (Care needs to be taken on the woodland path from Totteridge as it can be rather muddy and slippery after rain)
