Next in the series of our London talks with Peter Berthoud, a London Guide and Writer. On the first Thursday of each month he looks at an unusual aspect of London’s history.
The third talk will be A Virtual Walk on The Strand, looking at some of the oddities to be found on and around Strand.
Thursday 6th December, 12-1pm
As you travel along this former beach you will see, London’s, possibly the world’s, first wine bar, the scene of an elephant’s execution and the oldest family-run shop of its type on earth. You will also see a bizarre sculpture that most people have never noticed, a back-to-front church and the city’s largest clock face… no, not that one!
You will also learn about the death of the bowler hat, the birth of blue plaques, see a Victorian “Apps Store” and a steeple that should never have been and we’ll finish our tour in the close company of Dracula.
The talk will last an hour including an opportunity to ask questions and to look at some rare books. You can also enjoy a drink or a snack during or after the talk if you like.
The price for each talk is £5.00 or £3.50 for concessions.
